Mock Trial Hearings to Train New Lawyers and Legal Researchers Enrolled in the 36th Class of the Basic Training Programme

Abu Dhabi, July 14, 2022

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy (ADJA) held a mock trial hearing for the new lawyers of the 36th batch along with a group of legal researchers from government agencies, as part of the approved training programme for lawyers, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), for the preparation and qualification of lawyers and legal researchers in accordance with an approach that maintains quality performance and encompasses the best international standards and practices in the field of justice.

The Academy explained that the trainees' experience in simulating a real court hearing is part of the basic training programme designed to qualify new lawyers, noting that the facts of the mock trial are an applied model for real courts, where trainees play roles that include judge, defence counsel and prosecutor, in order to refine their practical experience.

This experience, the ADJA pointed out, fulfils many requirements, the most important of which is to bridge the gap between the theoretical study of law in universities and the demands of practical reality in courts and prosecutions, as well as being a practical application of what the trainee receives as theoretical material in the academy in order to memorise the information and learn how to use it realistically in professional life through the acquisition of the skills necessary for the practice of the legal profession, such as the ability to defend their ideas before the public and relevant institutions, and the development of their defensive capabilities to face all parties in the criminal trial with efficiency and competence.

It is worth noting that the training session was attended by 13 lawyers and 11 legal researchers representing 6 government agencies, in the presence of several members of the Academy's Scientific Council, judges and members of the Public Prosecution.
