The ADJD Discusses Ways to Enhance the Remote Litigation System and Digital Transformation in Judicial Services

The Third Justice Partners Forum, organised by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), under the title "Judiciary and Advocacy: Digital Transformation, Case Management and Remote Litigation", explored ways to enhance the litigation system and digital transformation in Abu Dhabi courts' judicial services, so as to support the competitiveness of Abu Dhabi as an attractive destination for business and investments.

The forum, which was held via video conference in the virtual hall of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy (ADJA), was attended by a large number of lawyers registered with the ADJD’s Lawyers and Experts Affairs Division as well as representatives of law and legal consultancy firms at the national and international levels, reflects the importance of partnering with lawyers as strategic interlocutors of the judiciary, and the need to hear their views in the continuous development and improvement of judicial and legal services, in line with the vision of the ADJD and the commitment of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, to achieve an accomplished justice of international quality.

The forum, which was moderated by Judge Sultan Al Nyadi, President of the Abu Dhabi Commercial Court, addressed a number of topics related to the remote litigation system and procedures within the courts of the Judicial Department, including the process of registering claims and requests, electronic pleading and file communication, digital judgments and decisions, open data and legal literacy, management of cases remotely, procedures for e-filing, legislation regulating the use of videoconferencing technology, attendance and absence of litigants at hearings, process of exchanging memos and documents before the competent court, recording of agreement in the minutes of remote hearings, probative value of signatures and documents, investigation and examination by videoconference, and procedures for appending the enforcement order on judgments and orders.

The forum also discussed the strategic determinants of digital transformation and internet courts, legislative and judicial developments regarding digital transformation in court services and remote litigation in the Civil Procedures Law, the cycle of electronic and intelligent litigation procedures and court case management, remote litigation systems, and the ongoing modernisation and development processes leading to an integrated system of AI uses in all legal services.
